2024 AKC Championship
The fifth day of the 2024 AKC Gun Dog Championship began at a chilly 36 degres under mostly clear skies. The wind was light at first break away blowing at under 5 MPH out of the south. As the day went on the wind became stronger blowing out of the northwest at around 15 MPH. The skies would remain partly cloudy and the temperature would only rise into the lower 50’s.
Meet Our Winners
The 2024 AKC National Gundog Championship began on May 3rd 2024 at Bryce Corral near Madras Oregon.76 dogs were drawn to compete in this, the largest all-breed, pointing dog Championship in the country. The entry features titled dogs including FCs, AFCs, GFCs, CHs, GCHs, DCs, NGDC CH, NAC CHs, and NCs.
The judges for this event were Wayne Yamashita and Bonnie Hildago. Both these judges are very wellexperienced in evaluating top notch, National quality gun dogs. They know what they are looking for in a gundog and that standard is high. We're blessed to have these two watching and evaluating the dogs.
This year’s Championship was ran on a single, one-hour course, roughly in the shape of a circle. The groundcover consists of native grasses and weedy cover that is approamatley 6 inches high. Sage brush isabundatnat on the course with a few cedar trees mixed in. The course is over rolling terrain with a fewmoderate hills. The course is a good test of a gun dog’s application.
